Orange announce MeeGo link

Orange are set to work with MeeGo, as the platform is combined with Intel Atom processor. MeeGo is a Linux-based software platform that works across multiple devices. This has improved and increased the range of internet-based applications and services for mobiles, netbooks and tablets. Reports are emerging that Orange are planning to Utilise the recently announced MeeGo platform, for a range of Orange devices alongside the Intel Atom CPU. By merging their own Maemo platform with Intel Corporations Moblin platform, the open-sourced MeeGo is proving a very attractive proposal for potential developers. This should in turn provide customers with more applications, which is the way mobile phones are going – there’s an app for everything, nearly! Recently MeeGo developed the Nokia N900 mobile phone, with a combination of  advanced Maemo OS and Moblin (Mobile Linux). Orange have plans to use MeeGo in a range of new smartphones, Internet tablets and netbooks, giving them advantage of Orange-lead services such as Orange Maps and Orange TV. NEW 'Travel Passes' from Virgin

Virgin have launched passes aimed at preventing unexpected charges when using their mobile phones for the internet and mobile broadband in the EU. This brand new range of 'Travel Passes' is aimed at customers who need and want to stop unexpected charges when travelling! What’s included? The travel passes allows for a one hour pass for £4 or a 24-hour pass for £6 – when using the internet. Passes for mobile broadband consist of: One day (£10 for 10MB) Three days (£15 for 15MB) Seven days (£30 for 30MB) 30 days (£60 for 60MB). It very easy to activate, all you need to do is text BUY + pass name (e.g. 1HR or 3DAY) to 23456. Jonathan Kini of Virgin Media director of mobile said: "Virgin Media customers never have to worry about accessing the internet while they’re abroad. "Whether it’s searching for the best pizzeria in Rome on your mobile or uploading photos onto Facebook with a laptop and mobile broadband, customers now have control over what they spend on holiday." The Influence of Applications!

TNS Telecoms Insight have done some research to show that a third of all mobile phone users quizzed ‘see content’ and ‘applications’ as a major factor for influencing their choice of mobile phone! A massive one third of mobile phone users see applications as a major influence when purchasing a mobile phone, according to TNS latest Global Telecoms Insight study. What happened and what did they find out? The TNS study showed after quizzing 27,000 consumers, 33% saw the content and applications, such as maps, music and games, as a major factor in deciding which mobile they should buy. They also found that 13% of consumers considered content and applications to be the single most important handset purchase consideration. While only a small 9% picked their phone due to the model of the phone and 12% make their choice based on the network. Stephen Yap the TNS Technology group director said: "As uptake and usage of mobile services proliferates, we are seeing profound changes in the way that people make purchase decisions and in the brands that are the most meaningful to them. "While established handset makers are standing their ground, network operators are clearly under pressure from the rise of the likes of Facebook, Google and Twitter. These content providers are increasingly capturing consumers' loyalties and are leading the way in brining users the benefits of the latest mobile technologies."
